Model Organisms
Animal models are essential
to understand the genetics and pathogenesis of human diseases. Mouse
models are established in a genotype- and a phenotype-driven way. A
broad spectrum of transgenic (incl. pronuclear microinjection of BACs),
knock-out and knock-in techniques is established in the LAFUGA animal
models platform. In addition we have recovered a large number of mouse
mutants with clinically relevant phenotypes within the Munich ENU Mouse
Mutagenesis Screen.
Besides the generation of mouse models, LAFUGA provides gene transfer techniques for the generation of
livestock models for various applications, including xenotransplantation,
diabetes and prion research. The technology basis includes nuclear
transfer using genetically modified donor cells as well as high
performance multitransgenics by using lentiviral vectors.
